yards Par 4 This
demanding par 4 is one of the most scenic in the State. A large lake sits
about 170 yds. from the green on the right side of hole and cuts into the fairway
about 130 yds. out to catch any drive not well played down the middle or left
side. Several large bunkers run up the left side and curve to the middle of the
fairway giving the appearance you need to stay right. This hole is best played
with a Fairway Wood or drive to the left center away from the lake and short of
the bunkers. Having played this first shot gives the player a well bunkered and
a lake to the right that requires a well played mid to short iron to a green with
lots of shelves and some slope from back to front. Having played here a lot I
know the second shot is into the wind and requires an extra club to carry the
lake if the pin is right to get the ball to the back left pin position. If they
use the front pin position is still best to play a little long as the lake swallows
up any miss hits, leading to a quick double.
I played a well-struck drive left of the lake to 130 yards and hit an 8 iron to
middle of the green for a good par 4. Look into the lake near the green and see
lots of Japanese Cat fish from the Prince Hotel. Best
Tip: Play a Driver or Fairway Wood to left and approach with enough club to
the left center. 2 putt and enjoy the ocean views of Molokini island and look
back up the mountain with the reflections on the lake. This is one of my favorite
holes on Maui and one I have lots of respect for. To
