An excellent finishing hole… long with a tight landing area and a well-bunkered
green with a back shelf if pin is placed in the far left side. Tee shot is framed
by large trees and lava rocks on the left and a large bunker on the right makes
a straight drive a must. And long helps or you faced with a 200 yd. approach.
Best to play to the middle of the green as bunkers on both sides of green catch
a lot of missed long irons. Take your par here and walk off the green, shake your
playing partner's hand and go the bar for some war stories about Makena North.
I'm sure you'll never forget some of its picturesque holes at one of Hawaii's
best golf courses. Drove
it well right down the middle and had 165 into the green. Wind from behind came
up and took a big 7 iron into the middle and made a good par, finishing 4 under
for one of my best rounds. The eagle on 5 was the highlight and a great 2 on 15
made the round. One 3 putt spoiled a career round at Makena. Best
tip: Keep drive a little left and stay left of large fairway bunker. Hit mid
iron between bunkers and take a 2 putt par. Thank
you for letting me highlight my round at Makena and I hope you too can play either
the North or South Courses while on Maui. I guarantee you'll be very pleased and
have an unforgettable experience. Stop by Maui Golf Shop in Kihei and visit
