first hole faces the West Maui Mountains and doglegs left. The stake in the
middle of the fairway is about 180 from the green... a good target for your drive.
Favor the left side. The wind, which normally blows from 9am on, comes from the
right and helps keep the fader from hitting into the rough. A decent drive of
250 leaves you with 180 into the green. With the wind behind, try one less club
but carry the pot bunkers. They are back about 30 from the green and should be
easy. Green slopes to the left. Uphill putts are slow at the Dunes, but the greens
are young and a little bumpy and you need hit your short putts firmly. Played
driver up right side to 205 yds out, first drive of the morning at 6:30 am. I'm
a little stiff. Only hit it 230 into the wind, but in the fairway. Hit my 7 wood
on the front edge and 2 putted for par. A good start at the Dunes. Best
Tip: Keep the drive up left side and take one less club if the wind is blowing…
which it does at the Dunes. Keep the approach a little left as bunkers are on
the right side and about the hole. An easy chip from below the pin on the left.
Any par here is good. This hole is easy to bogey as the green slopes hard to the
left. Three putting is common. To
